Forever in Bloom/ Donna Repaty

Donna Repaty has been creating art since she could put crayon to paper.  She studied Art Education at the University of Illinois, Chicago, and Advertising/Design at the Colorado Institute of Art, Denver.  Donna has worked in many mediums, but always comes back to play in mud.  She has been creating ceramic flowers since 1998.  She learned this technique when she and her husband lived in Seoul, S. Korea.  Her instructor, Miss Kim, would teach a new flower every week, and every week the students were expected to go home and create a dozen more to bring back to Miss Kim for critique.  When enough flowers passed inspection, Miss Kim would help make an arrangement.  The flowers are made petal by petal; then air brushed with an under glaze and fired.  If a shiny surface is desired, a clear glaze, or Celadon glaze is brushed on and the piece is fired again.

Donna learned to make roses, calla lilies, daises, water lilies, irises, carnations, tulips, orchids and peonies from Miss Kim; then taught herself how to make poppies, pansies, daffodils sunflowers, tiger lilies, fuchsia, columbine, and hibiscus.  There are so many more flowers to learn, a good project for retirement!

Donna teaches flower workshops at Marjon Ceramics in Phoenix AZ, and several Clay Clubs in the Phoenix and surrounding areas since moving to Arizona in 2013.  Her pieces are available at the Ground Floor Artists Boutique in Surprise AZ.  Donna accepts commissions.
